Under the direction of board member Rick Frantz, the Friends of Goodale Park completed a comprehensive inventory of Goodale Park's trees. Frantz is a resident of Victorian Village and an arborist for the city of Powell. In the spring of 2005, Frantz and several other board members worked in the evenings and on weekends cataloging the Park's trees. Goodale Park is no doubt the only park in Franklin County (and possibly the state and nation) with such a comprehensive tree inventory.

When the inventory was completed in 2006, the group had completed a very sophisticated inventory of 650 trees with considerable information on each tree (species, cultivar, location, age, height, and condition). By providing detailed information about the existing trees in the park, the inventory will provide a master plan for determining the species of trees to be planted in the future.

The Friends of Goodale Park are happy to share this information. The tree inventory may be viewed in two fashions. The recommended method is by downloading the Goodale Park Trees.kml if you have Google Earth installed on your computer. Once downloaded, you can simply double-click the file to access the data layer. Google Earth must be installed in order to utilize the *.kml file.

After opening the Goodale Park Trees file in Google Earth, you can move around the picture by clicking on the directional arrows, and can zoom in or out by clicking on the slider.
Once in Google Earth, you can also click on the pin indicating an individual tree to get a pop-up, detailed description of that tree.
The second method for viewing the park tree inventory is not yet complete.
